  • The teacher uses this applet in conjunction with worksheet 2. He uses it as a follow up to the protractor activity.
  • Before going through the calculations as a class, he has the students discuss them in their groups.
  • To ensure the students are forming an understanding for the calculations the teacher makes sure they make their thinking explicit. If necessary, he even asks specific questions (like he did for the meaning of 0.09. He even does a recap of the student contributions using the diagram on the screen.
  • By going through and having students identify the puprose of each component in the applet, they are giving meaning to them.
  • Further, they are reinforcing some of the terminology they have learned to this point in the class. He even puts the terms on the board which will help the students remember tehm during the class.
